Announced ahead of this weekend’s Las Vegas Grand Prix, the two companies have signed a multi-year partnership with no specified end date. Glenfiddich will serve the Aston Martin Aramco F1 team as an official sponsor.

To mark the partnership, Glenfiddich will release a 65-year-old whisky, which was distilled in 1959, the year when Aston Martin first took part in Formula One.

The official release date is yet to be confirmed during the partnership and its price is yet to be disclosed.

Brian Kinsman, Glenfiddich malt master, said: “This limited edition 1959 bottling represents a pivotal moment in history – the year Aston Martin first entered Formula One and won Le Mans. To honour this milestone, we delved deep into the Glenfiddich archives and unearthed this exceptional expression from that very year.

“It is a rare whisky that embodies the essence of this partnership, capturing the spirit of innovation and excellence that both Glenfiddich and Aston Martin have upheld for decades. The bottle is a tribute to our shared legacy, connecting the past with the future in a truly remarkable way.”

‘One-of-a-kind’ whisky

The ‘one-of-a-kind’ whisky was drawn from a rare Sherry butt. The liquid is described as ‘richly layered’ on the nose with notes of oak, aged leather, tannin and beeswax, that mingle with the ‘earthy essence’ of a dunnage warehouse floor. A drop of water releases waves of sweetness and dried fruit, with whispers of raisins and sun-dried prunes.

Then on the palate, oaky spice can be found, intermingling with cloves, dates, and walnuts, leading to a finish of Christmas pudding and dark chocolate.

Beyond the whisky launch and off the track, the multi-year global partnership will also stage as a platform for promoting responsible attitudes towards alcohol, and to never drink and drive.

Glenfiddich is owned by William Grant & Sons, which saw revenue and profits after tax increase by double digits last year.

The brand isn’t the only whisky that’s tapped into motorsports recently. Chivas Regal has also inked a deal with the Scuderia Ferrari HP F1 team.

As for Aston Martin, the company recently found itself in hot water after an advert in collaboration with Scotch distillery Bowmore was banned by the UK’s advertising watchdog, having been accused of linking alcohol and driving.
