Four Roses debuts single barrel line
Kentucky Bourbon distiller Four Roses will spotlight four of its 10 unique whiskey recipes through a collection of single barrel bottlings released each year.
Four Roses is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its single barrel whiskey by expanding the range with three new recipes. Alongside the flagship expression, OBSV, Four Roses will feature three new 50% ABV single barrel Bourbons in OBSF, OESK, and OESO.
“We are incredibly proud of the recognition our flagship Single Barrel has received over the last 20 years, so to be introducing our new Single Barrel Collection in this anniversary year is something truly special,” master distiller Brent Elliott said.
“Our 10 recipes are central to creating Four Roses’ signature mellow spice, and this collection provides the experience for fans to enjoy more of what makes our bourbons special.”
The whiskeys are bottled between seven and nine years and highlight Four Roses’ proprietary combinations of mashbill and yeast strain. Following the release of the first Single Barrel Collection, which will be available throughout 2025, the Kirin-owned Kentucky distiller will continue to introduce a new set of whiskeys each year, cycling through the nine recipes to complement the flagship bottle.
This year’s collection includes OBSV, made with mashbill B (60% corn, 35%, rye) and yeast strain V, imparting rye spice, apricot, pair, cinnamon, and toasted oak. OBSF is made with mashbill B and yeast strain F, showing herbal notes, bright rye spice, apple, vanilla, clove, and cocoa. OESK is made with mashbill E (75% corn, 20% rye) and yeast strain K, with notes of baking spices, mellow oak, tea leaves, and caramel. OESO is made with mashbill E and yeast strain O, imparting rich red fruit, vanilla, brown sugar, and delicate oak. Each of the whiskeys contains 5% malted barley.
Four Roses keeps a modest portfolio by today’s whiskey standards with just four core expressions. In 2019, it added to its permanent range for the first time in 12 years with Small Batch Select making this latest expansion a significant move for the brand and its loyal followers, some of whom make it a point to collect all 10 recipes. Each of these new single barrel whiskies will be priced at US$50.
