Self-cooling can to revolutionise RTDs
By Lauren BowesDelta H Innovations has created the Cool>Can, which has a self-cooling mechanism that can be activated through the touch of a button.
The company was created by James Vyse, who previously founded ready-to-drink (RTD) brand The Cocktail Man. He exited the business to create the Cool>Can. “I re-evaluated my mission, as consumers aren’t just drinking at home any more – they are very much drinking on the go,” he explained.
Consumers can press the bottom of the can to have their drink cooled in under two minutes, with a snowflake image appearing once the desired temperature is reached.
Delta H surveyed 100 students at Nottingham Trent university and found that 81% would choose a self-cooling can over a normal can when intending to drink on the go, while 73% would pay more if it meant having a cold drink.
The technology can also be used in other forms of drinks packaging, including pouches, cartons and bottles, which Delta H Innovations hopes to sell to other businesses.
The company is also working on direct-to-consumer products including a self-cooling cup and straw.
The can is fully recyclable, with the cooling reactant able to be disposed of roadside.
RTDs are predicted to reach US$40 billion by 2027 across 10 key markets.
