Hoste Cocktails debuts Mezcal Negroni

The third release in the Hoste ready-to-serve cocktail line is a riff that pays tribute to rich Oaxacan flavours.

The Mezcal Negroni is bottled at 35% ABV and features a custom vermouth blend.

Chicago-based Hoste cocktails has announced its latest product, Mezcal Negroni, which is made with sweet vermouth, tamarind liqueur, and mole bitters. The ready-to-serve drink comes with a custom orange citrus zest atomizer and joins The Martini and Gold Fashioned in Hoste’s bottled cocktail lineup.

“The Mezcal Negroni is a true modern classic cocktail,” co-founder Robert Haynes said. “Accentuated by regional elements like mole and tamarind, it takes on a whole new and delicious dimension. Both approachably bold and adventurous, each sip offers the bold native flavours of the birthplace of mezcal.”

Hoste collaborated with Pablo Jiménez, the mind behind the cocktail programme at Oaxacan restaurant Los Pacos. Jiménez focused on regional ingredients like mole negro and tamarind to ensure that the rich culinary traditions of Oaxaca were present in the drink. “By enjoying the Hoste Mezcal Negroni, one can truly savour the essence of Oaxaca,” he said.

Bottled at 35% ABV and priced at US$80, Mezcal Negroni shows notes of roasted agave, earthy spices, and bright citrus. The mezcal comes from Paquera Mezcal, while the vermouth is a custom blend from Little City Vermouth in Finger Lakes, New York.

The tamarind liqueur is infused with tamarind, ceylon cinnamon, cinchona bark, Mexican oregano, and other spices, and the mole bitters features chilhuacle negro chilli, mulato chilli, and pasilla de Oaxaca chilli, among other ingredients.

The packaging was designed by Mexican-American painter Roland Santana, who drew inspiration from the vibrant colourscapes of Oaxacan food and culture and incorporated nods to the riffs ingredients. As with its other products, Hoste is recommending the Mezcal Negroni for gatherings and gifting occasions.
