GlenDronach plans distillery expansion
Brown-Forman has submitted a planning application to expand The GlenDronach Distillery as part of a multi-million-pound investment.
Brown-Forman submitted the plan to Aberdeenshire Council to redevelop The GlenDronach site, which is located in the Valley of Forgue.
The investment will aim to protect the long-term future growth for The GlenDronach and meet ‘growing global demand’ for the Highland single malt.
The phased redevelopment programme is due to be completed in 2026, the year that the distillery will celebrate its 200th anniversary.
The project will seek to ‘preserve and enhance’ the site on the grounds of the former Boynsmill Estate.
Plans include the restoration of Boynsmill House and walled gardens, transforming the building into a luxury guest experience, and the conversion of a heritage warehouse into a new visitor centre.
There will also be an expanded car park and guest entrance, and improvements to the landscape and the path for guests.
This is Brown-Forman’s third round of investment in the brand after renovations of the visitor centre in 2020, which included a new tasting room, whisky bar, lounge, and retail space.
Brown-Forman also began a £30 million (US$36.5m) distillery expansion in 2022 to double production, including the restoration of the former maltings building as a working production area.
Jennifer Proctor, head of European homeplaces at Brown-Forman, said: “We’re very proud to be custodians of such a historic and revered single malt at The GlenDronach.
“This significant investment in the long-term future of the distillery will enable us to continue to preserve almost 200 years of rich heritage whilst ensuring we can meet the increasing demand in visitors for The Glendronach at home and around the world.”
In October 2022, GlenDronach released a 28-year-old single malt, called Grandeur Batch 11.
