French syrup brand Monin has announced the return of its Monin Cup competition for inspiring bartenders in 2024.

The cocktail contest invites young bartenders aged 18-27 worldwide to showcase their talent as mixologists by creating original serves with Monin products.

The theme of the 2024 Monin Cup, ‘Low is More,’ encourages bartenders to take inspiration from the current low- and no-alcohol trend and create aesthetic and flavourful low-and-no cocktails.

“Capitalising on what’s hot trends, such as the current low-and-no trend, is how hospitality venues stay relevant, making this year’s theme the perfect chance for young UK bartenders to develop their skillset within the popular realm of mocktails. Make full use of Monin’s vast portfolio, experiment with flavours, place a twist on classics and excite our judges with something unique,” said Lee Hyde, senior beverage expert at Monin.

“Monin encourages prospective entrants from across the hospitality industry to join this celebration of the art of mixology. Competitions like Monin Cup are key to ensuring a bright future for the drinks industry by bolstering the next generation of bartending talent, which we at Monin are always eager to support.”

Bartenders from the UK are invited to enter the national heat, held from 2-3 September, for a chance to win a trip to the Athens Bar Show this November.

The winner of the UK heat will receive an invitation to the grand final, which will take place this December at the brand’s home in Bourges, France.

“Monin Cup provides young bartenders with an exceptional opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the global bartending industry. It not only enables them to refine their craft and build confidence, but it also challenges their creativity,” said Anna Price, winner of the 2022 UK Monin Cup.

“Beyond being a competition, the Monin Cup serves as a reminder of the endless possibilities within the industry while emphasising the continuous pursuit of knowledge and the boundless potential for innovation.

“Young bartenders should enter the Monin Cup because it can inspire them, push them to improve their craft, challenge their creativity and serve as a catalyst for both personal and professional growth.”

To enter, submit a cocktail on the brand’s website before 31 July.
