Redbreast concludes Dream Cask range
Irish whiskey brand Redbreast has launched a 38-year-old as the final bottling in its Dream Cask Collection – the oldest release in the range.
The seventh addition to the line – Redbreast Dream Cask Zenith Edition – has been released to mark World Whisky Day tomorrow (18 May).
Drinkers will have the chance to buy the whiskey for €1,000 (US$1,084) through an online ballot, which opens at 12pm GMT on Monday 20 May.
Bottled at 45.3% ABV, Zenith Edition is the oldest release in the series at 38 years old.
Zenith Edition was created using the recasking method, a process that is said to honour the brand’s past and future. Master blender Dave McCabe and master blender emeritus Billy Leighton worked together on the release.
The liquid was distilled in 1985, spending 27 years in American oak ex-Bourbon casks before moving to a first-fill oloroso Sherry cask in 2013 for the remainder of its time.
The use of ex-Bourbon casks brings spice and vanilla tones to the expression, alongside ripe and juicy blackcurrant flavours from the Sherry cask, and undertones of chocolate and nuts.
Leighton said: “The release of Redbreast Dream Cask Zenith Edition marks a bittersweet moment – the end of a remarkable chapter. This collection has been a labour of love and each edition has been a celebration of the craft and passion that defines Redbreast.
“Handing over the baton to Dave fills me with pride, knowing that the legacy of exceptional whiskey-making will thrive under his expertise.”
Each bottle in the Dream Cask line comes with a keepsake book made from recyclable cardboard.
To grab a bottle of the latest release, sign up to the Redbreast Birdhouse members’ club on the brand’s website before 20 May.
Previous releases in the Dream Cask line have included a 27-year-old whiskey and a 32-year-old.
