Margarita Mile heads to London

El Tequileño Tequila and distributor Ten Locks have brought their Margarita Mile event to London and Leeds for the first time this week (19-25 February).

The Margarita Mile, a mile-long bar crawl for the popular Tequila-based cocktail, was created in celebration of National Margarita Day (22 February).

The seven-day activation debuted in Manchester last year and was founded by drinks company Ten Locks, which distributes El Tequileño in the UK.

For 2024, it has been expanded to cities in Leeds and London in collaboration with El Tequileño, Maldon Salt and hot sauce brand Tabasco.

The Margarita Mile event will see 26 venues across London offer Margaritas and other Tequila-based serves using El Tequileño as its base for one week only.

Shoreditch-based Home Bar will host a bar takeover tomorrow (21 February) with Steffin Oghene, El Tequileño’s global ambassador, alongside the team from Bath’s Dos Dedos bar.

Oghene will be joined by El Tequileño’s master distiller, Tony Salles, on a tour of the UK during the week-long activities.

“El Tequileño encourages everyone, from cocktail fans to Tequila lovers to those who want to learn more about quality craft spirits, to get out on the mile to try a Margarita,” said Oghene.

“We are super proud to be extending the Margarita Mile to three key UK cities in 2024 including London. Tony and I look forward to meeting the people of London out on the mile.”

Other bars taking part in the London festivities include A Bar with Shapes for a Name, Cocktail Trading Co, Highwater, Apothecary East, and Paloma Café, among others.

The Gin Journey will host a Mini Margarita tour in London on Saturday 24 February, featuring three different Margaritas and three El Tequileño tasters in three bars with an expert guide.

Callooh Callay will mark the end of the event in London with a closing party on 25 February.

El Tequileño and Ten Locks are also hosting an online competition for participants visiting bars on the mile to win a goodie bag of El Tequileño treats. To take part, imbibers must share a picture of their Margarita when out during the festival week.
