Launched in 2000 by Glaser, the Scotch whisky blending house is known for its focus on ‘reinventing’ the Scotch category.

Glaser will depart from his executive role in May, while remaining a shareholder in the company.

“After an extraordinary 23-year journey, I’ve made the decision to step away from Compass Box,” said Glaser, who also serves as whisky maker for the company.

“The decision wasn’t an easy one, but I firmly believe that now is the right time to pass on the reins to the new management and embark on fresh endeavours in my career.

“As I embark on this new chapter, please know that my love for the Compass Box brand goes beyond reason. I will continue to champion and support Compass Box as a devoted fan, advocate, and shareholder. I am confident that the brand will continue to flourish and evolve.”

The departure comes nearly two years after Compass Box named London-based Caelum Capital as its majority shareholder and appointed ex-Bacardi executive Maurice Doyle as its CEO.

“We owe a great debt of gratitude to John,” Doyle said. “His vision, creativity and commitment have been instrumental in shaping Compass Box into what it is today. It’s a testament to John’s legacy and to our talented team that Compass Box continues to go from strength to strength.”

Dr Alan Rutherford, chairman of Compass Box, expressed his “heartfelt appreciation to John for his exemplary leadership and dedication” during his time at the company.

In June 2022, The Spirits Business spoke to Glaser about his plans for the company as it moved into its next stage of development.

Earlier this month, Compass Box hired Stoli Group executive Jeff Popkin as its president for the Americas.
