Nusa Caña takes Bali to the US
From the beach clubs of Bali and Mykonos to the beaches of Miami and LA, Nusa Caña Rum is on the move.
Nusa Caña, Indonesia’s leading rum brand, is heading to the US after securing a long-term distribution agreement with Mexcor International. The rum will be imported exclusively by the Houston-based company, launching initially in early 2024 in Florida, followed by California and Texas and selective listings in New York and other key locations. With an established presence across Asia, Australasia and Europe, including a recent launch in Dubai, the award-winning rum is fast becoming one to watch.
Co-founder and managing director Marc Rodrigues said: “The United States, as the largest rum market in the world, represents the final key piece in the puzzle for us in fulfilling our vision of bringing back the forgotten story of Indonesian rum and putting it on the world stage.”
Indeed, Nusa Caña’s success can be attributed largely to its ability to offer consumers around the world a truly innovative rum – one with a unique origin story and a brand that draws on the vibes of Bali, one the world’s most popular holiday destinations, and Indonesia’s rich heritage of native sugarcane and exotic spices. Its branding elicits emotions of escapism, adventure and island life, whether sitting on a beach in Bali or in a premium bar in New York City.
The story starts on the island of Java, home of Batavia Arrack, one of the oldest known distilled spirits. Often heralded as the Godfather of modern rum, Batavia Arrack was one of Europe’s most popular spirits, centuries before the rise of Caribbean and other new world rums, before sadly being largely relegated to the history books.
Today, Nusa Caña is on a mission to put Indonesian rum back on the map, drawing on centuries of sugarcane spirits production in Indonesia to produce a portfolio of modern rums that reflect the essence and lifestyle of Bali, the brand’s spiritual home.
The product range so far comprises Tropical Island Rum, Spiced Rum, Dark Rum, The Godfather and Coconut Island Rum, each with a unique taste and character that has earned the brand international acclaim and numerous awards.
And with the US now on board, there are surely more exciting things to come for this truly innovative rum brand and the passionate team behind it.
Dre Masso, industry legend and global brand ambassador, is effusive in his praise for Nusa Caña: “Nusa Caña rum commands my admiration, evoking a sensory journey to the idyllic landscapes of Bali, where I lived for many years.
“With each sip, a symphony of flavours unfolds – luscious exotic fruits, freshly cut bamboo, the redolence of the salty sea air, and the grounding essence of wholesome pressed cane.
“This unique blend, enriched by ancestral Indonesian Batavia Arrack, reflects a nuanced and masterful composition among tropical rums. Remarkably intricate yet delicately balanced, this spirit excels in cocktails. For a natural Daiquiri, it stands as my unequivocal preference – a testament to its sheer delectability.”
