Sierra Tequila announces more sustainable sombrero

The new bottle toppers from Borco brand Sierra Tequila will be made with 100% post-consumer recycled plastic.

The Tequila brand is available in more than 91 countries around the world.

Sierra Tequila is making a commitment to sustainability by changing production for its iconic sombrero, which has topped bottles since the brand launched in 1981. The new topper reduces plastic waste and will minimise the brand’s environmental footprint.

Sierra Tequila de México – with its two product families, Sierra Tequila and Sierra Antiguo – is available in more than 91 countries around the world.

In June, the brand announced a new lower-ABV product, Tropical Chilli, that combines sweet and spicy flavours and is meant to be consumed as a shot. A few months after the launch, The Spirits Business spoke to Borco’s head of global brand marketing Philipp Stahl about the innovation.

“Our communication has been much more focused within the past two years, celebrating the shot and our unique shot ritual, and our consumer base loves it,” Stahl said.

In addition to the new flavoured expression, the Tequila brand carries blanco, reposado, añejo, and plata varieties.

In July this year, it was revealed that Poland-based Stock Spirits had agreed to acquire Borco for an undisclosed sum.
