The gin brand has established itself in nine regions of Japan, with plans for further expansion in the country.

Its owners, Noah Duijst and Siward de Groot, who acquired the brand last year, said: “Japan’s flourishing gin and cocktail culture and increasing interest in premium spirits make it an ideal market for Hermit Gin.”

“The prospect of sharing Hermit Gin with the Japanese community is not just a business venture; it’s a heartfelt entry emphasising our mission: turning Hermit Gin into a premium global brand.”

When the co-owners – who are brothers – acquired the business, they revealed their intentions to turn it into a global brand.

The 43% ABV gin is purified with Dutch sea water and crafted with 10 natural botanicals. It is described as being ‘silky smooth’ and full of ‘surprising citrus aromas’.

Some of the botanicals used in the process include orange peel, jacmel orange peel (from a sour orange that only grows in the Caribbean) and angelica root.

In June, in the first instalment of The Spirits Business’ blind-tasting competition, The Gin Masters 2023, Hermit Dutch Coastal Gin was awarded a Gold medal in the super-premium category.
