The Pinnacle Guide opens submissions

Bars in seven markets are now able to apply for recognition from The Pinnacle Guide, a bar rating system equivalent to the restaurant industry’s Michelin stars.

The Pinnacle Guide was established by London Cocktail Week co-founders Hannah Sharmon-Cox and Siobhan Payne, and Global Bartending founder Dan Dove.

Following an 18-month consultation period with the trade – including a month-long public consultation after the judging criteria was published in May this year – applications officially opened for The Pinnacle Guide last week (10 November).

Bars will be eligible to receive either a one, two, or three-Pin classification.

The founders said in a joint statement: “Our vision for The Pinnacle Guide has always been to celebrate the artistry and dedication of bars and bartenders globally.

“Through our Pin rating system, we aim to identify and showcase the most exceptional destinations for drinking cocktails (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic).

“Submissions for The Pinnacle Guide are an unparalleled opportunity for bars and bartenders to gain widespread recognition and attract a global clientele.

“We are hugely excited that applications are now open for bars to put their best foot forward.”

Celebrating excellence

Venues will be assessed and recognised for their excellence spanning a number of key categories. Factors that will be considered include front of house (processes and thoughtful touches), the drinks programme (menu concepts and coherence, ingredients and presentation), the venue’s look and feel (atmosphere, comfort and design), staff management (diversity, equity and inclusion), operations (efficiency, cleanliness and sustainability) and community (inclusiveness and responsible drinking).

The Pinnacle Guide aims to offer a transparent process to reward leading bars, and provide a level playing field for venues of all sizes and locations to showcase their abilities.

Being able to self-nominate was a key part of this goal, the co-founders noted, by allowing bars to showcase what they are most proud of before a series of anonymous in-person reviews.

Eligible bars in Australia, Dubai, Mexico, Singapore, Spain, the UK and the US can now apply online at thepinnacleguide.com.

Bars in other countries can register their interest in being recognised, which will determine where The Pinnacle Guide will expand to next.
