Johnnie Walker is fifth most valuable brand in UK
Diageo-owned Scotch whisky Johnnie Walker was named the fifth most valuable brand in the UK with a value of US$10.9 billion.
According to the Kantar BrandZ Most Valuable UK Brands 2023 report, the blended Scotch brand entered the top five for the first time after rising by four places – a value increase of 32%.
Telecommunications company Vodafone topped the list of the UK’s top 75 most valuable brands, followed by HSBC, Shell and BP.
Another Diageo-owned brand, Gordon’s gin, took the 52nd spot. The gin brand held the same position as last year, falling by 16% in value to US$1.15bn.
Scottish producer BrewDog was the only other alcohol brand to make the list, maintaining its 61st spot. The company, which produces beer and spirits, saw its value drop by 6% to US$914 million.
Adele Jolliffe, head of brand consultants at Kantar Insights UK, said: “Collectively, the UK’s leading 75 brands are now worth US$242 billion, a fall of 14% year on year, which is largely in line with the annual global trend, which shows a fall of 20%.
“However, in contrast, the most valuable global brands have increased their value by 39% since 2020. For the UK, the figure is just 6%.”
Johnnie Walker was the ninth most valuable spirit brand in the world, according to a report by Brand Finance in July 2023.
In August, Diageo reported double-digit net sales growth for fiscal 2023, driven by its Scotch and Tequila brands.
