Moth secures B Corp certification

Canned cocktail company Moth has become the first premium, British ready-to-drink (RTD) brand to receive B Corp certification.

Moth’s Margarita emits 33.54% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than a freshly made cocktail

Moth, which was named the UK’s fastest-growing premium RTD brand in May, achieved B Corp certification upon its first application submission.

The certification is awarded by B Lab, a non-profit network that ‘strives to transform the global economy to benefit people, communities and the planet’, and is awarded to companies that meet its standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

Founded by Sam Hunt and Rob Wallis, Moth launched in Waitrose stores across the UK in 2021.

The pair said that when founding the company, they worked hard to establish a work environment that offers fair pay with regular reviews to its staff, as well as personal development budgets and generous annual leave.

“We’re proud to have scored higher in this category than some longer-standing FMCG (fast-moving commercial goods) companies,” they said.

They also noted the company “strives to be kinder, with no empty promises”.

“We’ve partnered up with Zevero to calculate and verify our carbon footprint. Our Moth Margarita emits 33.54% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than sipping on a freshly made cocktail. We’re working to reduce our environmental impact as we grow,” they added.

Sarah Holland, beer, wine and spirits buyer at Waitrose, said the supermarket was thrilled to see Moth achieve B Corp accreditation.

Holland added: “It’s a testament to their commitment to sustainability and ethical business practices in an industry that is evolving rapidly.

“We are proud to stock their British made and produced cans on our shelves knowing that they align with our values and provide our customers with quality and consistency in every sip.”

Moth’s portfolio currently comprises a range of eight fully recyclable canned cocktails.

To mark B Corp month in March, SB rounded up 10 B Corp-certified brands that are leading the way to a greener future.
