Boann unveils Summer Solstice single pot still

Ireland-based Boann Distillery has launched a single cask pot still whiskey to mark the summer solstice (21 June).

The single pot still Irish whiskey was unveiled to a select group of whiskey enthusiasts at a summer solstice tasting event.

It is the second whiskey to be produced by the distillery, following Boann’s first single pot still bottling to mark the winter solstice in December. It was the first time whiskey had been distilled in Drogheda in 160 years.

The Summer Solstice whiskey has undergone three years of maturation in a Rivesaltes Rouge Barrique (fortified wine) cask from Southern France.

“Following the resounding success of our augural Irish single pot still whiskey unveiled during last year’s winter solstice celebration, Boann Distillery is aiming to captivate whiskey lovers again with our craftsmanship, passion and innovation,” said Pat Cooney, Boann founder and entrepreneur.

Only 401 bottles have been produced of the Summer Solstice whiskey.

Cooney added: “Our Summer Solstice whiskey embodies the essence of the season and captures the spirit of the sun’s zenith, offering a symphony of flavours and a testament to our commitment to excellence.”

The whiskey presents notes of red raisin, caramelised hazelnuts and burnt pineapple.

Sitting at 60.5% ABV, the Summer Solstice single pot still whiskey is presented in 500ml bottles, and retails for €150 (US$163) on the brand’s website.

The winter edition also featured in The Spirits Business‘ top 10 spirits launches in December 2022.
