Komos Tequila launches in UK
By Georgie CollinsSuper-premium Tequila brand Komos has debuted its three expressions in the UK as part of its global expansion plan.
Komos was created by former master sommelier and industry visionary Richard Betts, and was inspired by his extensive career and experience in the food and wine industry.
Komos has combined the oldest Tequila distilling processes with European winemaking techniques to create its portfolio of exceptionally smooth, light Tequilas.
The brand currently boasts three expressions: añejo cristalino, reposado rosa, and extra añejo, each of which pairs Mexican tradition with ‘the ethos of the Mediterranean lifestyle’.
Said to be one of the fastest-growing luxury Tequila brands in the world, Komos can now be purchased from Selfridges and selected Amathus outlets from RRP £115 (US$142.56).
The portfolio can also be found on the menus of UK bars and restaurants, including Roka and Hakkasan.
The añejo cristalino was aged for one year in French oak white wine barrels, before being filtered through charcoal to create a deliciously smooth spirit.
It offers notes of sugared pineapple, agave freshness and lime zest on the nose, leaving a warmth on the palate and a seamless finish.
Aged for two months in French oak red wine barrels from Napa Valley, the reposado rosa delivers ‘rich, delicate flavours and opulent aromas’.
The rich pink hue of the liquid is naturally derived from the grape skins of French rosé, and the palate is welcomed with fresh agave flavours, alongside notes of vanilla, butterscotch, and dry dark chocolate. Hints of blackberries, plums and dark cherries follow to create a long, rich, and smooth finish.
The extra añejo expression was aged for a minimum of three years in both French oak white wine barrels and American oak whiskey barrels.
Notes on the palate include dried orange peels, candied ginger, and toasted pecans. It is recommended enjoyed neat, as well as in a selection of classic cocktails.
Komos is distributed throughout the US, Mexico, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, and is the flagship brand from parent company Casa Komos Brands Group.
Last autumn, Komos secured US$15 million in funding, and a minority investment from Spirit of Gallo.
