Flor de Caña opens entries to 2023 contest
Nicaraguan rum brand Flor de Caña is calling on bartenders to enter the 2023 edition of its Sustainable Cocktail Challenge.
The Fair Trade and carbon neutral-certified rum brand hosts a global cocktail competition every year, which aims to inspire the on-trade to work towards a greener future.
The contest tasks bartenders with creating cocktails using sustainable ingredients and techniques.
Winning bartenders from each country will be invited to participate in the global final of the Sustainable Cocktail Challenge in Nicaragua next year.
Flor de Caña will also work closely with bar managers and bartenders to highlight the importance and benefits of adopting sustainable practices in their everyday operations.
UK finalists are due to be announced in September and will compete in October for a place in the global final.
Mateo Ortiz, UK brand ambassador for Flor de Caña, said: “Last year we had some outstandingly creative entries from mixologists up and down the country, who truly showed how the UK is leading the way when it comes to cocktail innovation.
“We can’t wait to see what this year has to offer, as we seek to show how exciting and beneficial driving sustainability can be for the on-trade and consumers alike.”
Bartenders can find out more information and enter the competition via www.flordecanachallenge.com.
Panama-based bartender Carlos Ferron was crowned champion of the Flor de Caña Sustainable Cocktail Challenge 2022.
He competed against Marco Pastanella from the US (representing North America), Tom Mchugh from Australia (representing Asia Pacific) and Dimitris Kaitalidis from Greece (representing Europe).
