Gin Guild appoints new board director

The Gin Guild has named Brighton Gin founder Kathy Caton as its board director.

The Gin Guild
The industry body was established in 2012

Caton’s role will include championing small distilleries and ensuring they benefit from the same advantages afforded to bigger producers in the industry body.

Caton said: “As someone who makes a premium product with love and care, I am delighted to be involved with an organisation that champions quality and stands up for gin. It’s an amazing organisation. Some smaller distilleries like us may not realise the Gin Guild is for them, but that is quite the opposite.

“There are some absolute titans of the drinks industry involved, including Christopher Hayman of Hayman’s Gin, and Dr Anne Brock from Bombay Sapphire to name just two.

“The team is amazing, but I hope I can bring a different perspective and attract lots of smaller members of the distilling community, spreading the word about the organisation.”

The Guild was established in 2012 by The Worshipful Company of Distillers, and today has more than 400 members from across the world.

The non-profit organisation works to protect, promote and invigorate the distillation of quality London gin in the UK and worldwide, and brings together gin distillers and industry leaders all involved in the production, promotion, distribution and consumption of gin.

Pal Gleed, director general, The Gin Guild, said: “Kathy’s appointment to the Gin Guild board is a fantastic choice. She is incredibly talented and will bring her trademark wit, humour and knowledge to highlight the work of the Guild.”

In October, the Guild installed 25 new members, including the founder and managing director of Nordic Gin House as a warden.

Hayman, chairman of The Gin Guild, said: “We are delighted to welcome Kathy to the Gin Guild board. I am sure she will bring her enthusiasm, vast experience, and distilling knowledge to help support the work of the Guild, its members and the vast number of craft distillers around the world.”
