Diplomático cocktail competition returns to UK

Venezuelan rum producer Diplomático has launched the 2022 iteration of Mixed Consciously, the UK leg of its global cocktail competition Artisans of Taste.

The Speciality Brands-owned rum has invited bartenders from across the UK to compete to win an all-expenses-paid trip to Venezuela, and have their recipe published in the brand’s 2023 Zero Waste Cocktail Book.

The competition will continue with its sustainable focus and will require entrants to curate a serve that uses each element to its full potential. Competitors can use either Diplomático Rum or its Amazonian stablemate, Canaïma Gin.

The cocktail can also include homemade ingredients or local produce.

This year’s judging panel will be composed of Tatiana Velez, expert in climate change and sustainable development and specialist in international tourism and hospitality management, 2021 winner Katie Rouse, and Speciality Brands’ head of mixology, Jon Lister.

The entrant who displays a combination of creative flair and sustainable approach will be crowned the Artisans of Taste, Mixed Consciously winner 2022.

From August onwards, Dean MacGregor, Diplomático’s UK brand ambassador will tour the country hosting training sessions and workshops to introduce bartenders to the competition.

On 15 September 2022, MacGregor will host a digital session with a guest appearance from Velez that will focus on applying sustainable practices in the hospitality industry.

Competitors must register at www.diplomaticoandco.com/artisans-of-taste. All cocktail entries must be submitted by 7 October.

The competition’s final will be held on Tuesday 1 November at Couch, Katie Rouse’s bar in Stirchley, near Birmingham.

In addition to the competition, Diplomático is launching Distilled Consciously, a sustainability platform that forms part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plan, aligning its efforts with the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.

The CSR plan reinforces the brand’s ongoing commitment to responsible production, good environmental practices and social support for both workers and local communities, which have been key to the brand since its inception.

The new Distilled Consciously platform marks another step forward in Diplomático’s commitment to sustainability.
