Plantation Rum debuts Ukraine charity bottling
Maison Ferrand has released a limited edition Plantation Rum bottling, with all sale proceeds going to a Ukrainian hospitality-founded charity.
Launching on Wednesday 20 July, proceeds of the limited edition Barbados 2015 Ukraine Charity Bottling will be donated to Budmo UA, a charity run by members of the hospitality industry in Ukraine that delivers meals to those in need across the country.
Master blender of Plantation Rum Alexandre Gabriel said: “We all know people directly affected by this war, and we wanted to support Budmo UA’s mission to help the Ukrainian people.
“The spirit of hospitality is central to our values at Plantation Rum and, with this donation, the association will now be able to invest in vans to deliver thousands of meals, providing nourishment and comfort to thousands of Ukrainians in war-affected areas every day.”
The rum has been bottled at a cask strength of 51.7% ABV from a handpicked single cask, with only 246 individually numbered bottles available.
The liquid was aged for two years in Bourbon barrels in a tropical climate, and one year in Ferrand Cognac casks in France. It was then re-casked for four years in an ex-Teeling single malt Irish whiskey cask.
The final maturation offers richness and complexity to the liquid, with ripe exotic fruits, coconut and olive brine on the nose, leading to banana, spices and malty notes on the palate. Cocoa and dried fruits can be detected on the lingering finish.
Barbados 2015 Ukraine Charity Bottling will be available in Europe from La Maison du Whisky’s online retail platform, www.whisky.fr. All proceeds of the full sale price of €65 (US$65.84) per bottle, or a total of €16,000 (US$16,246), will be donated to Budmo UA.
Kateryna Mykhailenko, PR manager for Budmo UA, said: “All the Budmo UA team would like to thank Maison Ferrand for the support and €16,000 donation. This is the biggest donation we have received yet.
“We will use this money to buy two vans or SUVs for the food and humanitarian aid delivery to the war-affected areas as well as evacuation of civilians. Budmo is our ‘cheersing’ tradition: every time we raise a glass in Ukraine we say ‘Budmo’. So thank you once again and Budmo.”
The Spirits Business has partnered with Lux Row Distillers to auction a cask of Rebel Bourbon to raise funds for Ukraine. Bids close on 29 July 2022.
