Compass Box debuts Orchard House whisky
Independent bottler Compass Box has released a fruit-forward malt whisky, described as a first for the company.
Orchard House (46% ABV) is the latest addition to Compass Box’s signature Malt Whisky Collection.
The expression was made from stocks of spirit purchased from distilleries known for their fruit-forward flavour. The liquid from each distillery was then aged in a variety of Compass Box casks including water-rinsed first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels, oloroso Sherry-seasoned butts and French oak custom barrels.
Compass Box founder and whisky maker John Glaser said: “Orchard House is our first core range whisky produced from whiskies we have aged since the day they were distilled.
“In a sense, it is more ‘our whisky’ than anything we’ve made before. We are so proud of this. Something new, something different for us. Something joyful. And delicious.”
The resulting liquid offers an aroma of apple, pear, and peach with hints of peat, pineapple and Earl Grey tea. The palate brings notes of apple juice, banana, honey, strawberry and subtle peat, followed by a finish of vanilla and cocoa power.
The ‘approachable’ whisky is recommended served over ice or paired with Chaource cheese.
Priced at RRP £42 (US$57), Orchard House will be available in the UK from 1 September via Master of Malt, The Whisky Exchange and Compass Box’s website.
In November last year, Compass Box released a limited edition blended malt Scotch whisky, called Magic Cask.
