In the new role, Philips-Johansson will help shape the future of the brand’s experiences, and educate consumers on how to drink Johnnie Walker.

Philips-Johansson said: “It’s a whisky I’ve always had an affinity for – built on 200 years of progressive thinking and with incredible ambitions for the future like the recently announced Johnnie Walker Next Steps initiative, upcoming opening of the new brand home, Johnnie Walker Princes Street, and much more.

“As we step into the next 200 years, I’m looking forward to finding ways to connect with trade and consumers from the four corners of Scotland, to the four corners of the world.”

Originally from Melbourne, Philips-Johansson has more than 20 years of experience in the global drinks industry. He stormed to success in the global finals of the Diageo World Class cocktail competition in 2012 to take the top spot.

Philips-Johansson is also the founder of award-winning cocktail bar Bulletin Place in Sydney, and Dead Ringer restaurant in Surry Hills.

He previously worked at leading bars across the world, including Melbourne’s Black Pearl, Milk & Honey in London and New York, and The Clubhouse in France.

Diageo said the bartender brings ‘a natural creative flare, curious nature and wealth of knowledge’ to the position.

Johnnie Walker global brand director, Julie Bramham, called Philips-Johansson “one of the most revered and respected talents in our industry”.
