Established in 2019, this year’s online contest is the first crowd-sourced shot ritual competition.

Bartender teams have until 15 June 2021 to submit their entries via a new online platform, which will enable contestants from around the world to take part despite Covid-19 restrictions.

The competition challenges groups of bartenders to create their own ‘shot-tails’ and accompanying drinking rituals. The brief encourages entrants to ‘capture the high-energy nightlife culture’ and ‘experimental flavours’ of cocktail culture, while showcasing the versatility and fun of Olmeca Tequila.

Carlos Andrés Ramírez, global advocacy manager at House of Tequila, said: “We’re so excited to welcome some of the top bartenders around the world to compete in this year’s virtual Olmeca Shot Ring competition.

“This year we’re looking for a winning shot-tail and ritual, which not only provides inspiration for a new and innovative way to enjoy Tequila, but also encapsulates the adventure and spontaneity at the heart of our Olmeca Tequila brand.

“The past year has given participants even more time to get experimental in the home bar, so we can’t wait to see them set a high standard for the competition over the coming week.”

To enter, bartender teams should upload a video of their shot-tail and ritual to the Olmeca Shot Ring platform before 15 June. Consumers will then be asked to head online and vote for their favourite concoction.

The top entries will go through to the semi-final on 24 June, competing against the other semi-finalists.

The two shot-tails and rituals with the most votes will then proceed to the global final, which will take place between 1-8 July. The champion will be crowned on 9 July.
