Glasgow Whisky to build Scotch distillery

Scotland’s Glasgow Whisky is planning to build its first Scotch distillery after acquiring the Tromie Mills Distillery in Speyside.

Glasgow Whisky purchased Tromie Mills Distillery, owner of a site in Drumguish, Kingussie, for an undisclosed sum. The site, located in Cairngorms National Park, is described as one of Scotland’s most picturesque distillery sites.

Scotch producer and current tenant Speyside Distillers will continue to operate the facility until its lease expires in spring 2025, when Glasgow Whisky will begin building its own site.

Glasgow Whisky was founded in 2007 by Graham Taylor and Stuart Hendry, who have more than 70 years of combined industry experience.

Taylor said: “The addition of a distillery in Drumguish is an exciting and natural progression as we continue to build for the future. Since our launch in 2007, we have seen significant growth in all areas of our Scotch whisky brands and products across the globe.

“The distillery will enable us to add to our portfolio and continue to supply our clients around the world with quality Scotch whisky.”

Glasgow Whisky said it will pledge ‘significant investment’ in building a new energy-efficient Scotch distillery on the site. The producer will also work with local suppliers.

Speyside Distillers revealed plans to open a single malt distillery in the region in January this year.

Hendry added: “Our plans for the distillery will give us the opportunity to celebrate an established and known site, whilst bringing it into the 21st century in terms of distilling innovation, sustainability and production methods.”
