National Distillery Co debuts Hot Cross Bun Vodka

New Zealand’s National Distillery Company has released a limited edition hot cross bun-flavoured vodka.

Hot Cross Bun Vodka is recommended served in a Martini

Bottled at 40% ABV, Hot Cross Bun Vodka has been launched across New Zealand following an initial release of 50 bottles, which were sold out on the first day.

Released ahead of Easter weekend, the vodka is said to be ‘slightly sweet, yet savoury’. The idea for the hot cross bun flavour came from the distillery’s chief mixologist Shaanah Evans.

A hot cross bun is a spiced sweet bun traditionally eaten during Easter.

The label on the bottle is inspired by the classic nursery rhyme Hot Cross Buns.

Hot Cross Bun Vodka is priced at NZ$65 (US$45.50) per 700ml bottle and available to buy from The National Distillery Company’s website.

Based in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, The National Distillery Company produces gin and vodka, including Hemp Gin and a navy strength bottling.

The distillery will launch its products in the US this year.

In April 2018, British gin producer Gin Tales launched a hot cross bun-flavoured variant.

Scotch producer Whyte & Mackay teamed up with chef Rory Macdonald to create the “world’s first” whisky-glazed hot cross buns in 2019.
