Padre Azul bottles single barrel extra añejo Tequila

Tequila brand Padre Azul has launched its first single barrel bottling, an extra añejo matured in ex-Bourbon casks for four years.

Padre Azul Single Barrel Tequila is packaged in a bespoke bottle

Padre Azul Single Barrel Tequila will launch across the US and Europe, and will be limited to 240 bottles in its first batch.

The Tequila is said to be ‘smooth and complex’ with flavours of cooked agave, peaches, apricots, cinnamon, caramel, chocolate and vanilla.

Bottled at 40% ABV, the Tequila has been packaged in a bespoke bottle created by Austrian designer and artist Andreas Palfinger and Hungarian designer and graffiti artist Balazs Pusztai. The design is based on the Mexican papel picado style and aims to pay homage to Mexican heritage.

Padre Azul Single Barrel Tequila will be priced at €149 (US$181).

Erika Sangeado, master distiller at Padre Azul, said: “The launch of our new single barrel Tequila is the final step of this project, which we started about five years ago.

“Our Single Barrel Extra Añejo is limited to 240 bottles per barrel. We use oak Bourbon barrels, which we carefully select by hand. Each barrel has its own story and adds its individual character to the Tequila, therefore no two batches are alike.”

The new expression joins the Padre Azul Tequila range, which also includes silver, reposado, añejo and cristalino bottlings.

Padre Azul Tequila is produced in Jalisco, Mexico, using 100% Blue Weber agave.
