Altos and Dre Masso create Margarita guide
By Nicola CarruthersPernod Ricard-owned Olmeca Altos Tequila has teamed up with bartender Dre Masso to create a guide for making sustainable Margaritas.
The Tequila brand and Masso have collaborated on the guide ahead of Margarita Day next week (22 February).
Masso’s guide offers sustainable ways to make the classic Tequila-based cocktail, including using six cubes of ice per drink to reduce waste. In addition, the recipes reuse the husks of citrus fruit to make garnishes and encourages drinkers to utilise local ingredients to substitute the citrus and sweet components.
Carlos Andres Ramirez, Olmeca Altos’ global advocacy manager, said: “With 185,000 Margaritas consumed every hour in the US alone, the new range of recipes are designed to help drink lovers around the world to celebrate Margarita Day in a sustainable way, inspired by our own ‘We Care’ platform, which encourages those within the industry to promote drinks and methods that have the lowest environmental impact to the planet and people that inhabit it.”
The guide also features six recipes made by Altos ambassadors from Canada, Germany, Columbia, Italy, Mexico and Russia.
“Allowing drinks enthusiasts to try modern blending and garnishing processes, all of these easy [tips] to create cocktails provide drinks lovers with insight into how they can enjoy interesting and regional flavour profiles from their country of birth or work,” added Masso.
“Encouraging Margarita lovers to care for the planet around them is important to both myself and the Olmeca Altos brand so, with the help from Altos ambassadors such as Megs Miller, Simon Kistenfeger, Juan Correal, Paolo Guasco, Abraham Delgado and Artur, I can’t wait to encourage mixologists everywhere to be sustainable and get inspired this Margarita Day.”
