The Spirits Business’ Christmas series

With Christmas fast approaching, we’ve compiled our 2020 Christmas recommendations in one place to help you with any final gift purchases ahead of the big day.

Our Christmas spirits video series covers Scotch whisky, rum, gin, Irish and American whiskey

With so much variety on the market, it can be tricky to know where to begin when it comes to choosing the perfect bottle to give to someone special.

In our first Christmas spirits series, editor Melita Kiely handpicked five award-winning bottlings spanning Scotch, Irish and American whiskey, rum and gin to deliver some festive inspiration.

The Scotch whisky offerings started from just £17 (US$23) for a single grain offering from Label 5 that was full of flavours akin to “poached pears and golden syrup”. Or for those with a slightly bigger budget to play around with, there’s Timorous Beastie 18 Years Old with notes of “honey and robust cereals” and “fruity, dark berries, dark cocoa” Glen Scotia Victoriana to look into.

For juniper fans, the five award-winning gins were sourced from as far afield as Japan to the South of France and Scotland, with “earthy, green tea aromas” from Ki No Tea, “zesty” Glaswegin, or what about “bright and fresh” No.3 London Dry.

In the Irish whiskey gift guide, we touched on Ireland’s famed single pot still style with the Redbreast Lustau Edition, with “red apples and burnt orange” aromas, and a stylish single malt from Method and Madness.

Our rum-focused video showcased a number of styles, from Rum Sixty Six 12 Years Old with classic flavours of “raisins, caramel, some woodiness” to Rumbullion! Navy Strength with “lashings of cinnamon, orange peel and clove”.

Completing our Christmas series is a selection of top-notch American whiskeys, from a “spicy” rye variant in Colonel EH Taylor Straight Rye, to bold and punchy Balcones Texas Single Malt with “toasted nuts, spices and an underlying sweetness”.

Throughout 2021, we plan to create more video content on our YouTube channel, which you can view and subscribe to at www.youtube.com/thespiritsbusinessmagazine.
