Langs Rum releases two new flavours
By Nicola CarruthersIan Macleod Distillers has expanded its Langs Rum range with the launch of two new expressions: Mango and Ginger, and Pineapple.
Langs Mango and Ginger and Langs Pineapple join the banana-flavoured bottling in the rum range
In September this year, Ian Macleod Distillers revived Jamaican rum brand Langs with the launch of a banana-flavoured expression in the UK. The brand’s first line extensions, Langs Mango and Ginger Rum and Langs Pineapple Rum, are both bottled at 37.5% ABV.
Neil Boyd, UK managing director of Ian Macleod Distillers, said: “The September launch of our Langs Banana Rum was a huge success, with hundreds of people flocking to our pop-up rum shack to try the new release – so we’re confident the addition of Langs Mango and Ginger Rum and Langs Pineapple Rum to our offering will be exciting news for rum fans.”
Langs Mango and Ginger Rum is described as having notes of mango coulis, meringue and vanilla on the nose, while the palate brings mango, peach, lime and crystallised ginger. The rum is recommended served neat, over ice, or mixed with pineapple juice.
The pineapple-flavoured bottling is said to have hints of coconut, caramel and lime, and a nose of pineapple, coconut, and raisin ice cream. The palate delivers pineapple, caramel and cinnamon, followed by a finish of fruits and spiced oak. It is suggested to be consumed neat, over ice, or mixed with cranberry juice.
Rum sales in the UK are worth more than £1 billion (US$1.3bn), according to data from the Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA), with off-trade sales growing by 24% year on year. The WSTA predicts that the flavoured and spiced rum category will become the largest off-trade subcategory of rum within the next 12 months.
Boyd added: “The rum category continues to skyrocket in popularity, which is why we decided to meet that demand by bringing back a beloved brand. Langs Jamaican Rum stays true to the original 1860s Lang Brothers Rum – tropical, characterful, and packed with exotic fruit notes. Our range is brimming with natural flavour and delivers a taste of the Caribbean to the UK. It’s liquid sunshine in a bottle.”
Langs Mango and Ginger and Langs Pineapple are available to buy from Master of Malt and will be rolled out across the UK with an RRP of £25 (US$33) per 700ml bottle.
