Otterbeck Distillery launches Captain Sir Tom’s Gin

English producer Otterbeck Distillery has partnered with former British army officer Thomas Moore to create Captain Sir Tom’s Gin.

Moore became known for his achievements raising money for charity in the run-up to his 100th birthday in April during the Covid-19 pandemic. He set out to walk 100 laps of his garden with the aim of raising £1,000 (US$1,336) for charity, but by his birthday on 30 April, Moore had raised more than £30 million (US$40m).

Moore is now seeking to raise funds for his charity through a collaboration with the founders of Otterbeck Distillery, Dougie and Nicola Lampkin.

Dougie Lampkin first met Moore while making the ITV film, A Day in the Life of Captain Tom. The pair bonded over a shared passion for the Yorkshire Dales and vintage motorbikes.

Moore visited the Otterbeck Distillery in the Yorkshire Dales and joked that he would like to have his own gin one day, which led to the creation of Captain Sir Tom’s Gin.

The 40% ABV expression is described as ‘herbaceous and smooth’ with notes of rosemary and thyme. It is recommended served with tonic water and garnished with blackberries and a mint sprig.

Moore’s daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore said: “On behalf of captain sir Tom and family we are delighted to be in partnership with Otterbeck Distillery and sincerely look forward to our journey together.

“We feel an electric connection to Yorkshire so working with a gin based here is so special to us as we continue to build our family legacy and celebrate our heritage.”

Proceeds from the sale of the gin will be donated to The Captain Tom Foundation, which was established by Moore this year to inspire others to raise money while walking. The foundation supports a number of charities, including mental health charity Mind and The Royal British Legion.

Nicola Lampkin said: “It is an amazing privilege to be working with captain sir Tom and his foundation, which supports some incredible charities. We’re delighted to be able to do our bit to help support such worthwhile causes. Captain sir Tom has captured the imagination of the world and we’re proud to have distilled a very special gin with a very special man.”

Captain Sir Tom’s Gin is priced at RRP £35.95 (US$48) per 700ml bottle. It is available to buy from the distillery’s website.
