William Grant CEO resigns

Simon Hunt has decided to step down as CEO of William Grant & Sons after almost five years in the role.

Simon Hunt will step down as CEO of William Grant & Sons

Hunt took over as CEO following the departure of Stella David in 2016. He will provide a short period of handover, but as of yesterday (22 October), William Grant’s chief financial officer Giles Wilson has taken on Hunt’s responsibilities.

William Grant & Sons, which owns Glenfiddich Scotch whisky and Hendrick’s gin, said a new CEO will be appointed in due course.

A statement from William Grant & Sons said: “The board would like to thank Simon for his contribution over the past 13 years and wish him all the best for the future. During his time with the company in a number of different roles, the profitability of the business has grown considerably and Simon has driven a large part of this.

“Latterly as CEO, he has delivered a new strategy for the business and embarked on a significant capital development programme from which the company will continue to benefit going forward.”

Hunt joined William Grant & Sons in October 2007 as managing director, North America. In April 2013 he was promoted to chief commercial officer, before assuming the role of CEO in March 2016.

Hunt added: “I am incredibly proud of all that I have achieved working with a brilliant team of people at William Grant & Sons, but now is the time for me to move on and I wish the company all the best for its ongoing success.”
