Ex-William Grant CEO joins ABG as non-executive director

Amber Beverage Group (ABG) has appointed former William Grant & Sons CEO Roland Van Bommel as a non-executive director.

Roland van Bommel has worked in a number of CEO roles across the alcohol industry

Van Bommel will join ABG’s supervisory board, which is led by chairman Mark Garber.

Van Bommel said: “I am very happy to be joining the ABG board and to be working with such an outstanding and dynamic team.

“Amber Beverage Group is well positioned in a number of areas in the wine and spirits industry where I believe my experience can be helpful, as we set our sights on continued growth and expansion.”

From 2004 to 2009, Van Bommel served as chief executive officer of Scottish drinks group William Grant & Sons, and previously worked as chief executive of Amsterdam-based distributor Maxxium Worldwide from 1999 to 2004.

Van Bommel is currently a non-executive director of Asahi Beverages Oceania, part of Japanese drinks firm Asahi Group.

“Roland’s experience as CEO of Maxxium and William Grant & Sons is of great value to us,” said Garber. “He has successfully created routes to market and developed brands like Sailor Jerry and Hendrick’s. Roland was invaluable to WhistlePig as the company worked to build a super-premium whiskey business over the last decade.”

Former High West Distillery CEO John Esposito was also recently named a non-executive director for ABG. Esposito took over Van Bommel’s role as chairman of WhistlePig’s board in March 2019.

Last month, ABG appointed Pepijn Janssens as the company’s new managing director for the Americas.
