The Booze Brain

Today (7 May) at 4pm BST, Rory Shepherd (pictured) and Alex Francis of Paris-based bar Little Red Door will feature on episode 24 of The Booze Brain on Instagram (@theboozebrain).

The episode, titled ‘Don’t judge a menu by its cover’, will see the two bartenders discuss how a menu can cultivate positive experiences for the bar team.

Grey Goose and Laura Whitmore virtual dinner party

At 5pm-5:30pm BST today (7 May), Grey Goose vodka and TV presenter Laura Whitmore will join forces to host a virtual dinner party on Facebook Live (@greygoose).

Whitmore will kick off the early May bank holiday by sharing her top tips for holding an online virtual dinner party over the weekend.

As today is also Cosmopolitan Day, Whitmore will show guests how to create the vodka-based cocktail using Grey Goose’s range.

The Whisky Exchange’s online tastings

Retailer The Whisky Exchange has launched a new digital tasting series, with the first one kicking off today (7 May) at 5.30pm BST.

This evening, The Whisky Exchange’s ambassador, Billy Abbott, will host a live tasting session with whiskies from distilleries around the world, including India’s Amrut and Japan’s Miyagikyo.

On Saturday (9 May), The Whisky Exchange’s head buyer Dawn Davies will lead a tasting of her favourite Tequilas and mezcals.

Consumers can also purchase Perfect Measure packs ahead of each session on The Whisky Exchange website.

Flaviar’s The Nightcap Live

Every Thursday at 7pm EST, subscription spirits service Flaviar hosts its Nightcap Live series featuring special guests, including actors, comedians and entrepreneurs, as well as a spirits expert.

In partnership with drinks firm Bacardi, the weekly series aims to educate existing and aspiring spirit enthusiasts around the world on some of the producer’s spirits brands. The show is hosted by Dan Dunn of the What We’re Drinking podcast.

Today (7 May), Dunn will be joined by Bacardi single malts brand ambassador, Holly Seidewand, who will guide the audience through Scotch whiskies Aberfeldy and Royal Brackla. They will be joined by spirits lover and comedian Joe DeRosa.

Seedlip masterclass

Every Friday at 6pm BST, non-alcoholic ‘spirit’ brand Seedlip will hold a digital cocktail masterclass on Instagram (@seedlipdrinks).

The informal and fun how-to videos will show drinkers how to craft no- and low-alcoholic serves, with each episode providing more difficult cocktail recipes over time.

St-Germain Stay-In Movie Night

As part of St-Germain’s #RaiseYourSpirits virtual series, the elderflower liqueur brand will host a film matinee on Monday (10 May) at 2pm EST through the Netflix Party extension and Kast.

Consumers can sign up to participate and vote for the film they want to watch with the winning flick to be announced soon.

St-Germain will also deliver a free snack to consumers’ doors on the day of the showing and provide a cocktail recipe inspired by the chosen film during the viewing.

In addition to snacks, St-Germain is offering free delivery on Drizly with the code ‘STGERMAINSPRITZ’ to allow drinkers to stock up on their film night cocktail ingredient needs.

English whisky tasting

At 9pm BST tomorrow (8 May), The Whisky Lounge will team up with five distilleries to shine a spotlight on English whisky in a live event, called English Whisky – It’s a Thing.

Hosted by The Whisky Lounge founder Eddie Ludlow, the event will feature a tasting of five English single malts, followed by a Q&A.

The event will feature The English Whisky Company’s owner, Andrew Nelstrop; The Spirit of Yorkshire’s whisky maker and director of whisky, Joe Clark; Cotswolds Distillery’s owner Daniel Szor; The Lakes Distillery’s whisky maker Dhavall Gandhi; and Bimber Distillery’s brand ambassador, Luke Juranek.

Consumers can purchase a pack of five English whiskies ahead of the tasting for £30 (US$37), with £5 (US$6.20) from each set sold donated to The Drinks Trust charity.

London Essence Co’s online series with Merlin Griffiths

Mixer producer The London Essence Company has teamed up with TV bartender and pub owner Merlin Griffiths to create a content series of insider tips and tricks for making cocktails at home.

From making the most out of items found in the cupboard to serving drinks in style, the tips will be live on Instagram and Facebook for consumers and mixologists alike to revert to during lockdown.

The tips can be viewed on London Essence Co’s Instagram page (@londonessenceco).

Cointreau Cocktail Hour

Every Friday, Cointreau is hosting a virtual cocktail hour, with bartenders from across the US taking over the @cointreau_us Instagram page to teach viewers how to craft one of their speciality cocktails at home.

During these cocktail hours, Cointreau is encouraging viewers to make their own donation and will match all social pledges up to US$10,000.

#TheVirtualHappyHour

A few weeks ago, a group of hospitality workers launched #TheVirtualHappyHour initiative to bring people together and provide an extra boost to on-trade venues.

The campaign encourages people to join the digital happy hour and catch up with friends and family. When the happy hour is finished, everyone in the group donates the price of their chosen drink to the group’s favourite bar.

The initiative aims to help the hospitality sector survive the coronavirus pandemic. Venues are encouraged to promote the campaign across social media to enlist their regulars to join a virtual happy hour. So grab your drinks, log online with your friends, and support your favourite local with #TheVirtualHappyHour.
