De Kuyper creates liqueur for Old Fashioneds

Dutch firm De Kuyper has released a new liqueur designed to simplify how to make Old Fashioned cocktails at home.

De Kuyper Ol’ Fashion Liqueur provides a “nearly effortless way” to make Old Fashioneds at home

The Old Fashioned cocktail is typically made by stirring Bourbon, sugar and Angostura Bitters in a glass, before garnishing the drink with an orange peel.

The new De Kuyper Ol’ Fashion Liqueur offers a “two-step solution” to making the classic cocktail by simplifying the method to combining the new expression with Bourbon and stirring.

The liqueur is said to have flavours of “tart citrus balanced by bitter notes and a touch of sweetness, followed by hints of orange and bakery spice”. On the nose, the expression has a blend of orange peel and aromatic spices.

Ivan Hidalgo, Beam Suntory’s senior marketing director of commercial brands, said: “The Old Fashioned has experienced significant growth in popularity over the last few years, yet it is often deemed too complicated to make at home.

“De Kuyper Classic Ol’ Fashion offers a two-step solution for cocktail lovers of all skill levels to craft a delicious cocktail that can be replicated to perfection every time.”

Bottled at 30% ABV, De Kuyper Ol’ Fashion Liqueur is priced at US$12.99 per 750ml bottle and is available to buy across US stores and online through Drizly and Reserve Bar.

De Kuyper liqueur entered the US market in 1933.
