Altia has had to adjust its operations due to the impact of coronavirus on the company’s travel retail and on-trade business in all countries, as well as the firm’s exports.

Pekka Tennilä, Altia CEO, said: “Our working environment has changed radically and we must react accordingly. The adjustments are necessary in order to maintain our operational capability in short and long term.

“With the co-operation negotiations, we try to find the best solution for all Altia employees under these exceptional circumstances.”

The group said the restrictions have affected the company’s workload and as a result, temporary lay-offs are being considered.

Employees have been contacted to volunteer to be part of the temporary lay-offs, and negotiations are expected to be over after Easter (12 April). In Finland, negotiations concern all operations.

Altia has assured any possible lay-offs would be temporary. The group’s other operational countries are also undergoing personnel adjustments.

Altia employed approximately 632 people in 2019, with 418 located in Finland.
