Spirit Master: Patrón Reposado Tequila

As National Margarita Day approaches this Saturday (22 February), we explore an acclaimed Tequila that would be perfect for recreating the classic drink.

Perfect Patrón Margarita is made with the brand’s award-winning reposado

Every week, SB celebrates some of the top scoring Master medallists from The Global Spirits Masters blind-tasting competitions.

We scoured the results of our Tequila & Mezcal Masters 2020 to find an expression that would be best suited for celebrating National Margarita Day this weekend (22 February).

The Tequila & Mezcal Masters, held last month at London’s Cafe Pacifico, saw four Master medals awarded to worthy entrants.

In the super‐premium reposado Tequila round, a Master went to Bacardi’s Patrón Reposado.

One judge said: “I found it very gentle and easy to drink with peppery, earthy agave flavours. That’s what you want and need in a Tequila – I loved it.”

Made with 100% Blue Weber agave, the Tequila was aged for more than two months in oak barrels.

In October last year, Patrón opened its Francisco Alcaraz Barrel Room, which increased storage capacity to more than 20,000 barrels.

Bottled at 40% ABV, Patrón Reposado Tequila is priced at £50 (US$65).

Patrón has also launched a Margarita map in the UK that directs drinkers to nearby bars serving a bespoke Patrón Margarita cocktail list to mark the occasion. Consumers can also enter a prize draw for a chance to fly to Mexico and have a Margarita experience with Patrón.

To recreate a Perfect Patrón Margarita, check out the recipe below.

Ingredients:

35ml Patrón Reposado

15ml Patrón Citrónge Orange

20ml Fresh lime juice

Method: Chill a coupe glass, then garnish the glass with a lime wedge and half salt rim. Add all ingredients and ice to a shaker and shake and strain into the glass.
