Now in its 10th year, the cocktail competition will be held during the Trinidad & Tobago Carnival on 24 and 25 February. This year’s competition received entries from 318 bartenders from 55 countries.

Christopher ‘Jillionaire’ Leacock is best known for his contributions to American electronic music group Major Lazer. He is also part-owner of Clyde’s, a Trinidadian cocktail bar in Brooklyn, New York.

“I am a proud supporter of Trinidadian culture and have a personal interest in cocktail culture and one of our island’s biggest exporter – Angostura,” said Jillionaire.

“Whoever goes on to win the competition, will not only be representing Angostura, they’ll be representing our island on the world stage, something I take seriously.”

Jillionaire will join head judge and drinks professional Maxwell Britten on the panel.

The other judges are: Eryn Reece, bar director at The Wooly Public, New York; Joe Schofield, co-owner of Schofield’s Bar, Manchester, UK; Angostura chief brand educator Raymond Edwards; and the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge 2018 champion, Raymond Letoa.

Bartender Franky Marshall, formerly of Brooklyn bar The Clover Club, will serve as master of ceremonies.

After the competition, Jillionaire will head up the after-party celebrations with a DJ set.

The global final will require bartenders to mix two drinks in seven minutes while entertaining judges with their knowledge of cocktails, the category and Angostura. The finalists will also undergo a ‘rigorous’ interview.

The nine finalists are: Shana Rajahram (Trinidad and Tobago), Marv Cunningham (The Bahamas), Chad Lawrence (Canada), Gustavo Costa (Brazil), Mike Jordhoy (France), Rohan Massie (Australia), Simon Dacey (UK), Vasile Dorofeev (Dubai) and Agung Satria (Vietnam).

The winner will receive the title of Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge Champion 2020, a cash prize of US$10,000 and a two-year contract as a global brand ambassador for the Angostura range.
