John Dewar & Sons to host live Amazon whisky tasting

Bacardi-owned John Dewar & Sons has partnered with retailer Amazon to host an online whisky tasting, set to be Amazon UK’s first live-streamed event.

The livestream whisky tasting will feature spirit from Aberfeldy, Aultmore and Craigellachie

Due to be hosted by malt master Stephanie Macleod, drinks writer Alice Lascelles and Matthew Cordiner, Aberfeldy brand home ambassador, the interactive whisky tasting will be filmed at the Aberfeldy Distillery in Speyside and streamed to audiences in the UK and Germany.

Through the tasting, audiences will be led through John Dewar & Sons’ Single Malt Discovery Collection, a set of three Scotch whiskies from Aberfeldy, Aultmore and Craigellachie.

As part of the livestream, Macleod, Lascelles and Cordiner will also conduct a Q&A session, where viewers will be able to submit questions live and direct to the hosts.

Global brand director for Bacardi’s Malts Ian Taylor said: “The live tasting is a global first for Amazon and we’re very proud to be a part of it.

“Consumers are increasingly looking to the online environment for new, exciting whiskies and we feel Amazon is the perfect digital platform to bring together new and experienced whisky drinkers alike, to learn more about our amazing single malts.”

For those hoping to take part in the interactive tasting, the Single Malt Discovery Collection, featuring three 200ml bottles of Aberfeldy 12 Years Old, Aultmore 12 Years Old and Craigellachie 13 Years Old, is available to buy from Amazon for £40 (US$50).

Lascelles said: “I’m thrilled to be joining Stephanie – a malt master I’ve long admired – on this exciting new project for John Dewar & Sons and Amazon. I’ve always thought the best whiskies are ones that start conversations, so I’m really looking forward to being able to taste, discuss and explore these drams in real time with other whisky lovers around the UK and Germany. I’m sure we’ll all learn something.”

The livestream will run on 24 October at 7.30pm GMT.
