Global Brands debuts RedLeg rum and coke RTDBy Owen Bellwood
Global Brands-owned mixer brand Franklin & Sons has expanded its ready-to-drink (RTD) range with a pre-mixed RedLeg Spiced Rum and coke.
Launching in Co-op stores across the UK, the new RTD is made with Franklin & Sons 1886 Cola, RedLeg Spiced Rum and lime. It has an ABV of 5%.
Rosie Crossman, brand manager at Franklin & Sons, said: “Taking inspiration from the unique flavour combinations first explored by the Franklin family back in Victorian Britain, the 1886 Cola includes West African kola nut and Colombian coffee beans, adding a unique twist to everyone’s favourite, the classic rum and cola.”
According to Franklin & Sons, “rum and cola is more on trend now than ever before” and rum sales were valued at £367 million (US$440m) in the UK off-trade in the 12-month period to July 2019. Spiced rum is also growing at just under 13% in value year-on-year.
Kate Alexander, marketing and operations director at RedLeg Rum Company, said: “The secret to the great taste of RedLeg is all in the blending, the rum is left to rest in oak barrels and infused with Jamaican ginger and vanilla spices, creating a rum with an incredibly smooth taste.
“Adding Franklin & Sons 1886 Cola adds a dimension of sweetness and is the perfect way to put together a classic serve, that can be enjoyed everywhere.”
Franklin & Sons’ new pre-mixed RedLeg Spiced Rum and coke carries a recommended retail price of £2.19 (US$2.60) per 250ml can.
