Deliveroo to offer CBD drinks on demand

Cannabis-based drinks creator Botanic Lab is offering “CBD on demand” through the launch of a “first-of-its-kind” partnership with Deliveroo.

From today (4 September), on-demand drinks delivery service Deliveroo will offer Botanic Lab’s CBD soft drink, Dutch Courage, via the new ‘Dispensary’ platform.

The drink contains 5mg of “full-spectrum” cannabidiol (CBD) per 250ml serving. CBD is the non-psychoactive component found in cannabis.

In addition to hemp CBD extract, Dutch Courage contains sour cherry and hibiscus botanicals, and is free from refined sugars, artificial colours, flavours and sweeteners. It is available via Deliveroo as a single 250ml can or as a four- and eight-can multipack.

Botanic Lab founder and CEO Rebekah Hall said: “Last year we launched a ground-breaking drink incorporating one of the most talked about and culturally significant ingredients of all time – the UK’s first CBD drink Dutch Courage.

“Today Deliveroo will innovate in the market once again creating the first CBD on-demand service, delivering our industry-shaping drink to the consumer in under 45 minutes.”

Tom Peters, director of health at Deliveroo, added: “At Deliveroo, innovation is at our core and we are constantly looking for ways of bringing new, exciting and healthier brands in the food and drink industry to our customers.

“We’re excited to partner with the pioneering team at Botanic Lab and launch a CBD on-demand service.”

The CBD trend has been sweeping the drinks industry in recent months, with a raft of new products hitting the market, including ready-to-drink shots, ‘craft’ gin and spiced rum.

Opinion has been divided over whether the alcoholic drinks industry should be concerned about losing market share to cannabis. One study recently warned that the sector “may need creative strategies to avoid market decline”, while a US trade body said increased legalisation of cannabis had not affected spirits sales.
