Botanist Gin unveils mini film series

Islay gin The Botanist has created a mini film series designed to celebrate the wild foragers, chefs and bartenders connected to the brand, called Wild – A State of Mind.

Roushanna Gray, founder of Veld and Sea, features in one of the mini films

The collection of five-minute films include stories of: Nick Weston, director of Hunter Gather Cook, fishing and cooking along the River Itchen; Philip Stark, professor and director of the Berkeley Open Source Food project, foraging in downtown San Francisco, US; and Roushanna Gray, founder of Veld and Sea, as she teaches foraging and wild cookery classes in Cape Town, South Africa.

Additional films feature Nick Liu, executive chef and partner at Dai Lo and Little Dai Lo restaurants in Toronto, Canada; and Vijay Mudaliar, founder of Native, a foraged mixology bar in Singapore, as he ventures into the city looking for fruits and flowers for his cocktails.

The five films will be released one by one from August 2019 and will feature on The Botanist website. Screening events will also take place globally throughout the year.

Douglas Taylor, CEO of Bruichladdich Distillery, which makes The Botanist Gin, said: “The Botanist has its own full-time professional forager, James Donaldson, who sustainably hand-picks 22 local island botanicals to be used in the distillation of our Islay dry gin, harvest by harvest, year by year.

“Through our involvement in the foraging movement, we’ve been lucky enough to work with some of the most exciting foragers, chefs and bartenders from all over the world.

“Through these films, we hope to show people that there’s a world of flavour out there and to encourage people to get out there and discover it. With this philosophy in mind, we believe that the best way to enjoy The Botanist gin is to create local and seasonal drinks using foraged ingredients.”
