GlenDronach debuts 10-year-old Port Wood

The GlenDronach Distillery has launched a limited edition 10-year-old single malt that has been finished in Port pipes from the Douro Valley.

The GlenDronach Port Wood is bottled at 46% abv

The “rich and fruity” GlenDronach Port Wood was inspired by the import of casked Port into Scotland in the 19th century.

It has been matured in Pedro Ximénez and oloroso Sherry casks, followed by a second maturation in Port pipes from the Douro Valley in Portugal.

“The GlenDronach means ‘valley of the brambles’ in old Scots Gaelic,” said master blender Rachel Barrie.

“We are delighted to celebrate this heritage with a Portuguese twist on our revered Pedro Ximénez and oloroso Sherry cask maturation, which uses the best Spanish oak.

“This extra maturation in Port casks imparts a deep cherry wood colour and enriches the layers of fruit in The GlenDronach, with delightful waves of Victoria plum, brambles and sandalwood on the nose.

“Layers upon layers of rich fruit flavour open up on the palate with notes of roasted apple crumble and gingerbread, developing into baked orange and black cherry back notes.”

Bottled at 46% abv, The GlenDronach Port Wood is non-chill-filtered and absorbs colour naturally over time from the Spanish oak.

It is available to buy from specialist retailers globally from RRP £60 (US$75.85).

Last month, The GlenDronach launched its second travel retail-exclusive bottling, a 16-year-old single malt aged in ex-Port and ex-Sherry casks.
