Ben Lomond Gin goes on sale

Loch Lomond Group has taken inspiration from Loch Lomond National Park – specifically the Ben Lomond mountain – to create a Scottish gin.

Ben Lomond Gin was inspired by its namesake Scottish peak

Ben Lomond Gin is a London Dry style made with handpicked blackcurrants and locally foraged rowan berries to “create a soft sweetness”.

The rowan tree is native to the UK and is usually found in the Scottish Highlands. Folklore says it provides protection from enchantment, and ancient Scots saw the tree as sacred and prohibited cutting off any part of it, except for religious ceremonies.

The tree was also known as the ‘traveller’s tree’, said to prevent people from getting lost.

Loch Lomond Group has agreed to work with conservation charity the John Muir Trust to help protect the countryside that inspired Ben Lomond gin.

Ben Lomond Gin has been bottled at 43% abv and has an RRP of £33 (US$42) per bottle.

Colin Matthews, CEO of Loch Lomond Group, which produces Ben Lomond Gin, said: “From a business point of view, Ben Lomond premium gin is a logical extension of our portfolio of award-winning spirits. The gin trend shows no sign of abating across the UK and international markets are also developing a taste for it with exports doubling over the last 10 years.

“We are expecting strong demand for our Ben Lomond Gin in many markets, especially those with traditional Scottish connections.”
