Dewar’s launches GTR-exclusive Double Double range

Bacardi-owned blended Scotch brand Dewar’s has launched a new travel retail-exclusive range of whiskies that have undergone a four-step ageing process.

Dewar’s has released a new range of whiskies that have undergone a four-step ageing process

The Dewar’s Double Double range was created in homage to the brand’s history of double ageing and features three whiskies aged for 21-, 27-, and 32-years.

Dewar’s master blender Stephanie Macleod, said: “Three things are important to Dewar’s, and these are age statement, double ageing and pursuit of smoothness. We wanted to harness each of these in our new products.

“To do this we came up with a four-step ageing process. The first step sees the malt and grain whiskies each reach their age statements, we then blend the malts and put them back into specially selected casks and we do the same with the grain whiskies.

“We then blend the grains and the malts together and put them back into casks and back into the warehouse. Then we put the whiskies into three different types of Sherry cask.”

The 21-year-old release has finished in oloroso Sherry casks, giving the whisky “subtle notes of cinnamon and ripe vine fruits with a silky smooth finish”.

Finished in palo cortado Sherry cask, the 27-year-old bottling has “heady, aromatic, floral notes with honeyed fruits and sublet spice”, while the 32-year-old whisky has “rich, ripe treacle notes with a hint of smokiness” developed through its maturation in pedro ximénez Sherry casks.

Macleod added: “It has been a pleasure working on these whiskies and a really exciting project to be a part of.”

Each bottled at 46% abv in 500ml bottles, the 21-, 27-, and 32-year-old whiskies are priced at US$90, US$160, and US$250 respectively.
