Social 24 uses colour to highlight cocktail flavours
London bar Social 24 at Jason Atherton’s Michelin-starred City Social has unveiled a new colour-coded cocktail menu with different shades representing the flavours of each drink.
The Social 24 menu includes cocktails such as the One More
Curated by bar manager Mickael Lenu, the menu features splashes of colour to represent a range of flavours – including salty, sweet, fruity, floral, sour and bitter.
The cocktails have been inspired by the “golden age of cocktails”, and each one has been created to bring together history and modern mixology.
The Aper Old Fashioned features on the bar’s new menu
Drinks on the menu include the Sunset 24, which is made with Grey Goose vodka, Meloncello, citrus, melon, egg white and melon meringue. On the menu, the drink is illustrated with dashes of yellow to highlight the sour notes, orange to represent fruity flavours and blue for sweetness.
The “floral and tangy” Social Mistress is made with Bacardi rum, pear liqueur, Maraschino and blackberry ice cream candy, while the Aper Old Fashioned combines Aperol, Slingsby Rhubarb Gin and orange candy.
The new menu also includes a selection of cocktails designed to share, such as the Punch Me If You Can, which is available for two, four or six people and contains Bombay Sapphire gin, sloe gin, hibiscus tea, strawberries, grapefruit and Chartreuse. It is served in punch bowls embellished with pictures of merry noblemen who are enjoying punch.
Alongside the cocktails on each page are quotes from “time-honoured cocktail connoisseurs”, including American writer Ernest Hemingway.
