Slingsby creates caviar-infused gin with Michelin-starred chef

Yorkshire-based Slingsby Gin has partnered with Michelin-starred restaurant The Man Behind The Curtain in Leeds to launch a caviar-infused gin.

The Man Behind The Curtain Gin contains caviar and planton

The new expression, called The Man Behind The Curtain Gin, has been distilled with botanicals from Yorkshire, along with unusual ingredients including Exmoor caviar and plankton.

The gin’s components are described as capturing the “distinctive style” of the Leeds restaurant with flavours designed to compliment a savoury palate.

The “savoury and bold” gin will be served at the renowned restaurant in a Martini or in a gin and tonic, along with a spoonful of caviar. It will also be served in a semi-frozen desert with lemon.

British chef Michael O’Hare opened The Man Behind The Curtain in 2014. The following year it was awarded a Michelin star. O’Hare is known for his unusual flavour combinations and eccentric culinary style.

“It’s been extremely fun to work with Slingsby Gin,” said O’Hare. “Their product is already top quality and it was nice to have the opportunity to put our own stamp on it, and I cannot wait for our customers to try it.”

Mike Carthy from Spirit of Harrogate, owner of Slingsby Gin, said: “We’re huge fans of Michael’s creativity and unique menu creations, so it was an honour to be asked to create him such a distinctive gin.

“The process of working with such strong and unique flavours was fun, and we’re very proud of the finished product.”

The gin is priced at £100 (US$130) and is available to buy at The Man Behind The Curtain restaurant in “very limited” quantities.
