Glengoyne Legacy Series marks distillery’s history

Ian Macleod Distillers-owned Highland Scotch whisky Glengoyne has released the first expression in a new annual range, called The Glengoyne Legacy Series.

The Glengoyne Legacy Series: Chapter One celebrates former distillery manager Cochrane Cartwright

The Glengoyne Legacy Series: Chapter One is the first in a series of new whiskies that will “showcase the captivating stories of the distillery’s history and its people”.

The new single malt Scotch whisky is the brand’s first global release in almost two years.

Chapter One tells the story of when Glengoyne’s distillery manager in 1869, Cochrane Cartwright, took the site’s production process “to the next level”.

Cartwright slowed distillation down to a third of the industry average to increase the “sweet, fruity flavours” of Glengoyne’s spirit. He also introduced the distillery’s use of Sherry casks.

Chapter One has notes of “toffee, warm pear, spicy cinnamon and vanilla”, which stem from the use of first-fill European oak oloroso Sherry casks.

Bottled at 47% abv, the expression is packaged in a burgundy gift tube with a neck tag to tell the story of Chapter One.

Katy Macanna, brand manager for Glengoyne, said: “Glengoyne Distillery is known for its unhurried distillation process and six-year wood journey from tree to cask.

“The first in our new Legacy Series is a fitting tribute to Cochrane Cartwright and the vital role he played in shaping the award-winning whisky that we remain tremendously proud of today.”

The Glengoyne Legacy Series: Chapter One will retail at £54.99 (US$71.80) per 700ml bottle, and will be available to purchase at www.glengoyne.com from 18 February 2019.
