Nineteen80 campaign stresses ‘groping not okay’

Singapore-based bar Nineteen80 has launched a campaign to encourage a “kinder” clubbing environment, reiterating to patrons that “groping is not okay”.

Nineteen80 has adopted the Care Bears for its ‘kindness’ campaign

The retro-themed arcade bar and club was inspired by the Singapore Kindness Movement – a non-profit organisation that aims to “build a gracious Singapore” – and has adopted the 1980s Care Bear characters for its campaign, called #Niceteen80.

It hopes to tackle “those fun sponges who get a little verbal after one too many or suddenly develop a wandering hand”.

The campaign is also urging customers to respect other revellers’ personal space and be aware of other people’s boundaries, as well as showing respect to service staff and DJs.

Posters created to support the campaign include ‘DBAD Bear’, which carries the strapline: “Be kind at all times. Don’t be a d*** bear,” and ‘Quest Bear’, which advises: “Make it your quest to have a good time. DJs are not your personal jukeboxes. Be like Quest Bear.”

Meanwhile, Harass Bear’s poster shares the message: “Groping is not okay. Verbal and physical abuse is not okay. Don’t be like Harass Bear.”

The campaign will be rolled out online via the hashtag #Niceteen80.
