The fifth and final Scotch whisky in the annual limited edition John Walker & Sons Private Collection: 28-year-old Midnight Blend
Only 3,888 bottles of Midnight Blend have been created, with an abv of 42.8% and priced at RRP US$750. It will be available in select locations from November.
Created by Johnnie Walker master blender Jim Beveridge and his team, the blend comprises liquid sourced from distilleries including Strathmill in Speyside and Caol Ila on Islay. These were included in three vattings, which were then blended to create the expression.
The whisky is said to have notes of butterscotch, caramel and toffee, complemented by fruitiness and a hint of spice.
Beveridge said: “Whiskies aged for 28 years are rare and very special. In our search to find the flavours and characteristics necessary for a rich, indulgent Scotch like Midnight Blend, we were very lucky to have access to some of the most mature reserves drawn from the four corners of Scotland.
“Each individual malt and grain used in the final whisky adds layers of flavour to the 28-year-old Midnight Blend, leaving hints of fruit, sweet and spice and making it a wonderful final addition to the Private Collection.”
The John Walker & Sons Private Collection was first launched in 2014 with A Unique Smoky Blend. This was followed by Rare Fruit Character in 2015, Fine Honeyed Notes in 2016 and Mastery of Oak in 2017.
Last month, Johnnie Walker launched its first 50-year-old whisky as part of its John Walker Masters’ Edition.
